AT&T Inc. is a holding company, incorporated in Delaware in 1983 and run from 208 S. Akard Street in Dallas, and it employed about 133,030 people at the end of 2025. Its Communications segment covers wireless and wireline services for consumers in the United States and for businesses globally, split into three units: Mobility, Business Wireline, and Consumer Wireline.

Those units are worth telling apart before you apply. Mobility is the nationwide wireless service and the equipment that goes with it. Business Wireline sells ethernet-based fiber services, fixed wireless, IP voice, and managed professional services to business customers, alongside the legacy voice and data lines that still run underneath. Consumer Wireline is the residential broadband business, including multi-gig fiber connections and AT&T Internet Air, a fixed wireless product delivered over the 5G network. Fiber technicians and splicers sit mostly in the last of those, though business fiber builds pull from the same trades. One recent change tidies the picture: in July 2025 the company sold its remaining interest in DIRECTV to TPG, so television is no longer part of the story. Research and development spending ran to $843 million in 2025, down from $955 million in 2024 and $954 million the year before that.
