Ducommun traces itself to a business founded in California in 1849, an odd lineage for an aerospace supplier and one it states plainly in its annual report. It reincorporated in Delaware in 1970 and now runs two segments out of a Costa Mesa headquarters. Electronic Systems builds cable assemblies and interconnect systems, printed circuit board assemblies, radar enclosures, avionics racks, and lightning diversion strips. Structural Systems makes contoured aerostructure components, bonded metal and composite assemblies, winglets, precision extrusions, and ammunition handling systems.
The 2025 annual report puts the workforce at 2,130 people as of December 31, at facilities around the United States plus one manufacturing site outside it, in Guaymas, Mexico. A collective bargaining agreement covers 282 full-time hourly employees at one performance center. Acquisitions have carried a good deal of the growth: in April 2023 Ducommun bought BLR Aerospace, which makes aerodynamic systems for rotary and fixed-wing aircraft, for an initial $115 million, and put it inside Structural Systems. The end markets are commercial aircraft, military fixed-wing and rotary-wing programs, and space, with a smaller slice of industrial and medical work.
Complex cable assemblies, wire harnesses, and interconnect systems are a named Electronic Systems product line, built to high-reliability standards for aircraft and space programs, so termination and harness work here sits behind aerospace qualification.
